L’Esprit

Each host country has different approaches tho this event

This event takes place with entirely mixed crews. With commands, gigs and different spoken languages this is a true test off seamanship.

Sailing

To test the crews ability to sail their gig at maximum speed around a set course

Oars and Sails

the supreme challenge to test the crew ability to row and sai their gig at maximum speed around a set course

Rowing race

Fierce strength, stamina and esqusite technique in a straight 2 mile course.

A spectacular finish to any contest.

Slalom

The perfect test of boat handling. Crews must take their gig around a 5 bout course without a rudder.

Man Overboard

On the water can be a testing situation no matter the weather and in the interest of safety the event is a test to recover a fellow being who has fallen overboard speedily and safely.

Passage Race

This is a long enduring course under oars or sails and is always challenging due to the different courts hosting the event.

Navigation

It is important crew know where they are on the water and how to return home safely.

This event tests the navigational skills of the crews

Ropework

A traditional yet important event as these gigs require traditional methods to rig the boats ready for use.

Crews are challenged to elect a particular knot whilst others are challenged with splices, whippings snd seizing to be executed exquisitely for the judging panel.

Captains Gig

bring back history… this involves transferring an guest under oars from a dock to a vessel, reenacting one of the historic functions of the gigs.

Jackstay Transfer

Gigs will approach a whaf and with lots of little unique managers, complete a sack transfer and row back to the finish line.
